Rocket Project

Materials manager

I was in charge of research materials that were cost effective, easily manufacturable, and safe for sustained burns.

The rocket project was in collaboration with the TAMUCC ASME club. We built a liquid kerosene, gaseous oxygen, electric fuel pump rocket engine. The rocket has sustained multiple test fires and is entering phase 2. Phase 2 development is my capstone project, in which my team and I will design and develop a test stand that will measure the thrust output of the rocket. Additionally, sensors and instrumentation will be added to measure the combustion chamber properties. Furthermore, sensors are being added to the fuel and oxygen feed systems to give an accurate mass flow rate into the chamber. Using these sensors, we plan to optimize the combustion in the engine. The stagnation temperature and pressure from the sensors will also be used to redesign the nozzle using the Prandtl Meyer function to generate characteristic lines, giving us a new nozzle shape. The project will follow ASTM 9100 and parts of MIL-STD 810.
